ROP Photography 1st Semester Final

Flickr: Yury Prokopenko
This beautiful photograph was taken in Belmont Newcastle, Australia with a Canon EOS 5D. In my opinion, I think this photograph is absolutely magnificent! The photographer effectively uses the rule of thirds to highlight the beautiful and colorful clouds in the sky.He also incorporated HDR to make the image more vivid, colorful and detailed. I really like how the dock emerges from the bottom right corner and moves to the center of the photograph. I also admire how the photographer used a relatively fast shutter speed to capture the moving waves as if it were still.

This stunning photograph was also shot in Australia using a Canon EOS 5D. Yury, the photographer incorporated many photographic techniques to enhance the visual appeal of this photograph. The slow shutter speed makes the water seem like there is fog on top of it. I think this gives the photograph more character because it shows movement within the photograph. The use of HDR also enhanced the image by revealing the details in the darker areas of the photograph. It also made it much more vivid and colorful. The shooting position also gives it a somewhat bug's eye point of view which I think is quite interesting.

Museum: Gustave Le Gray
This black and white photograph is beautiful. It was taken by Gustave Le Gray, a famous photographer. I really like how the rays of the sun are visible through the clouds. This definitely adds visual appeal to the photograph. It also seems like he used the rule of thirds to put the focus of the photograph on where the sun would be. The ship sailing under the dark clouds gives the photograph a slightly ominous feel which I think is quite interesting.

This is another photograph by Gustave Le Gray. To me, what makes this photograph so interesting is the fact that the lighthouse is centered. I also think that the emerging clouds cast an ominous feel over this photograph as well. It seems like a storm is building up. It also seems to me like Le Gray used a colored filter to give the photograph the beautiful tint.

Five Facts:
-Was originally trained as a painter
-Made improvements on paper negatives
-One of his photographs was sold for $840,370
-Called "most important French photographer of the nineteenth century"
-Was born in 1820

Landscape HDR: Sina Abadi
This is an HDR photograph that was shot at Lafayette Reservoir using a Canon EOS 7D. I really like how HDR can bring out the detail and vivid colors in the photograph. I find the reflection of the sunset on the water very appealing because it has an almost mirror like effect. I incorporated the rule of nines to put a focus on the sunset and light tower. Overall, I think the vivid colors and details in the photograph make it a unique work of art.

This is the original HDR photograph. I took three photographs using different aperture settings. Then I merged the images to produce this HDR photograph. This photograph is dramatically different from the one above because there are no presets or image enhancements applied to it. This HDR experiment clearly shows how High Dynamic Range can highlight details in dark areas and bring out the vivid colors within the photograph.
